In
1970 Arabia introduced the BK service with Paratiisi (Paradise)
decoration, which was created by Arabia's artist Professor Birger
Kaipiainen (1915-1988). The bowls and dishes in the original service
was oval, following the style of his wall plates. BK service was in
production only four years, until 1974.
In 1987 Arabia took Paratiisi service back in production, only the
shape of the dinner plate was changed from oval to round, and the
material, originally hard earthenware, was re-issued in
higher-fired stoneware.
Paratiisi is Arabia's best loved pattern of all time. The secret to its
success is a brilliantly designed motif which combines striking
graphics with rich colors carefully chosen to complement any
environment.
